WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A PAROMED LASER FOOT SCAN
The scanning process is fast, clean and non-invasive. Patients will need to have the affected foot in contact with the scanner. Scans can be taken whilst patients are non-weight bearing, partially weight bearing or fully weight bearing. Once the foot is in the correct position (your podiatrist will assist if necessary to ensure this is achieved), the scan can be quickly completed.
Patients don’t need to make any special preparations for a scan, which is usually completed as part of a routine appointment.

- The scan uses sophisticated infrared light technology to capture a 3-D picture of your foot. Once completed, the 3-D image of the foot is accurate to 0.1mm. It is rare that a plaster cast (the traditional method of acquiring an impression of the foot so that a suitable orthotic device can be created) achieves this level of accuracy. Using the scanner improves the chances that the orthotic aid we provide fits comfortably and performs effectively.

- Patients typically report that they feel nothing during the scan process. Particularly if you’re a patient with extremely sensitive feet, who doesn’t like having them handled unless absolutely necessary, a scan is a more comfortable alternative to plaster cast creation.

- Some patients find it difficult to keep their foot in one position whilst a cast is being taken. This may be because of medical issues which make it difficult to remain still, or the difficulty in finding a comfortable position whilst the cast is made. In contrast, a Paromed scan is extremely rapid and can be positioned in several ways, depending on what’s going to be best for the patient.

- Sometimes it’s not possible for a patient to remain in the correct position whilst a scan is completed. If this situation occurs whilst a cast is being taken, the cast materials are wasted and considerable preparation is required before the casting process can be reattempted. In contrast, if the scan isn’t completed successfully, it can be repeated easily and rapidly, with no waste.

HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED A PAROMOD SCAN?
In most cases, a patient will require a scan when their orthotic device needs to be replaced. This may be because the foot contours have changed, additional pathology has emerged or an incremental treatment (for example to correct a deformity) needs a fresh orthotic device so that further progress can be made.
